THE COMMERCE WEEK (TCW)

The Commerce Week (TCW) is Asper’s very own orientation or ”frosh” week. TCW is held during the first week of classes in September, and includes a number of social and academic events for students to participate in. Through these events both new and returning students are able to network with other students and local business leaders, and learn about all of the great opportunities Asper has to offer. Asper’s eight annual TCW will take place September 5th to 8th.

31ST ANNUAL NATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL CONFERENCE

The NBSC Organizing Committee is responsible for assisting the co-chairs in the planning of the conference. This includes organizing delegate transportation and meals, creation of marketing and promotional materials, and seeking out sources of sponsorship.

Since NBSC’s inception in 1993, NBSC brings together the next generation of business leaders to Winnipeg, including Students’ Association Executives and JDC West Captains from Canadian Business Schools.

This year, the 31st Annual National Business School Conference will take place November 16-19th.

57TH ANNUAL COMMERCE BUSINESS BANQUET

The Commerce Business Banquet is a longstanding tradition of the I.H. Asper School of Business. What started as a small event to foster the relationship between business professionals in Winnipeg and students of the Asper School is now in its 57th consecutive year and the premier event that the Commerce Students’ Association hosts. The Business Banquet is an event that is unique to the school, and the biggest student-led, corporate networking event of its kind in Canada.

5 DAYS - UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

5 Days is national charity campaign that takes place in March to help raise awareness for youth facing homelessness.

The 5 Days campaign includes many events and initiatives, the biggest of which being “5 Days Week” in March. In Winnipeg, 5 all of the proceeds raised goes to Resource Assistance for Youth (RaY), who focuses on getting underprivileged youth back on their feet.

SHINERAMA - UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

ShineToba is the University of Manitoba chapter of the National Shinerama charity in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. The campaign has been going on for over 50 years and during this time span the average life expectancy has increased from just under 5 years to around 50 years. This campaign involves a high level of commitment from not only the Asper community but the University community and the Winnipeg community as a whole. A heartbreaking statistic: Most people diagnosed with cystic fibrosis will have to undergo two doublelung transplants during their lifetime.

ASPER FIRST YEAR COMMITTEE

The First Year Committee represents the New-to-Asper students in Faculty of Management. Two elected First Year Representatives chair the First Year Committee, leading the planning of various fundraisers and charities, as well as a killer social.

COMMERCE CARES COMMITTEE

The Commerce Cares Committee is a small leadership group where individuals will work closely with each other to put together the Coffee House, Mentorship Program, and Student Appreciation Week. Each member is responsible for the organization of logistics for these events, as well as other miscellaneous tasks (seeking out in kind donations, promoting the events, etc). These positions will require a considerable time commitment for the upcoming school year, however, will yield a very unique and rewarding leadership experience.
