To all of the new students, congratulations on your acceptance to the Asper School of Business! To those of you returning, welcome back! My name is Matthew Thomson and I am thrilled to have been elected President of your Commerce Students’ Association (CSA) for the 2017-2018 school year. As undergraduate students enrolled in the Asper School of Business, you are all members of the CSA.
The CSA’s mission is to enrich the undergraduate student experience through unique events and professional development opportunities that foster meaningful relationships with the greater business community. As President, I am personally responsible for motivating and supporting a team of nearly 60 council members who work tirelessly to ensure this mission becomes a reality.
I believe the key to making the most of your time at Asper is getting involved beyond your coursework. Whether volunteering with Shinerama or 5 Days for the Homeless, networking with one of many companies at the Commerce Business Banquet, or attending one of our renowned Commerce Socials, there is something for everyone. Getting involved will allow you to develop both your personal and professional networks and have a great time doing it.
In addition to the CSA’s events and services, Asper’s Student Action Groups (STAG’s) offer major specific events and services for students. These groups are a great resource to help you choose your major(s) and network with other students and business professionals in a specific business discipline.
When I entered the faculty, I never could have guessed that I would become President of the CSA. Getting involved with the CSA and STAG’s has been the best decision I have made in the past five years, without a doubt. Don’t miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime! Follow the @AsperCSA on social media, visit our website at aspercsa.com, and be sure to check the TV’s in the Drake Centre regularly for more information.
If you have any questions throughout the year, send me an email or stop by the CSA Office in room 144 to introduce yourself. All the best for the year ahead!
